NEW MODULE FOR CARBON CAPTURE AND STORAGE (CCS) SIMULATIONS

  • NEW EOS MODELS
    • In addition to Cubic EoS models and GERG-2008, the CCS module also features the Span-Wagner model for pure CO2 and the Leachman model for pure H2.
  • NEW VISCOSITY AND THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY MODELS
    • In addition to the traditional CSP and LBC models, the CCS module has the Laesecke/Huber model for pure CO2, the Muzny/Assael model for pure H2, and the CSP model with CO2 as reference component for CO2 rich systems.

  • CCS VERIFICATION REPORT
    • The CCS verification report shows a comprehensive comparison of simulation results vs. experimental data for CO2 with impurities, CO2 with water, CO2 with brine and solid CO2 freezing.

    • The CCS module has a number of additional PVT simulation options: Fluid database, Fluid mixing, Flash (2, 3, multi-phase PT, PH, UV, HS, VT, P-beta, T-beta), Phase envelope, Saturate with water (plot a T-range for a given pressure), Saturate with Salt Water, Critical Point, Property Generator, Hydrates and Unit Operations.

NEW PVTSIM EOS FORMAT

  • PVTSIM JSON EOS EXPORT
    • New JSON type format for holding characterized fluid information. The format is available in two versions: A Limited version with data required for PVTsim consistent EoS simulations, and a Complete version, which holds all information stored with a characterized fluid in PVTsim, including PVT data. This format is ideal for use in cloud environments.

FLUID MANAGEMENT

    • Bulk Edit functionality enabling easy editing of the name and sampling data for a selection of fluids.
    • Single menu for editing Common EoS models. Updates to the model will be applied to all fluids in the Common EoS model.

    • When you copy PVT data from one fluid to another the Sampling Data will also be copied.

FLUID HANDLING

  • LUMP COMMON EOS MODELS
    • It is now possible to lump existing Common EoS models.
  • ASSIGN LUMPING TO IMPORTED EOS MODELS
    • Imported EoS models do not have PVTsim’s lumping information, which is required to run the “Add to EoS” functions. The new Assign Lumping to EoS function allows the lumping information to be stored on the fluid, thereby enabling the use of PVTsim’s “Add to EoS” functions for the imported EoS model.
  • OBM CLEANING – USER CONTROLLED
    • Users can now select a measured OBM composition in the OBM Cleaning – User Controlled menu. The amount of OBM removed can be changed with the slider, and the plot of the resulting clean composition can immediately be viewed.
    • When a measured OBM Composition is selected, users can press “Find Optimum OBM amount”. This new function finds the amount of OBM to be removed to give the best trend line of the clean composition vs. carbon number.
    • The allowed range for the estimated OBM composition increased to C9-CNplus-2.
  • SIMULATIONS WITH OBM
    • When a fluid is selected with OBM components, simulation menus now display the amount of OBM in the fluid.

PVT SIMULATION & REGRESSION

  • IMPROVED LOGIC FOR NEAR-CRITICAL FLUIDS
    • For near-critical fluids with a measured Differential Liberation experiment, logic has improved so regression to the data can take place, even if the fluid becomes a gas condensate during the regression iterations.
  • IMPROVED CSP MODEL TUNING
    • Issue fixed, which in rare instances could yield unphysical behavior when tuning the CSP viscosity model.
  • VISCOSITY SIMULATION
    • Viscosity data can now be simulated as a Constant Mass Expansion experiment.

RESERVOIR

  • UPDATED DEPTH GRADIENT REGRESSION
    • Tune to match a Gas-Oil Contact depth, and match compositions and Saturation Pressures vs. depth.
  • NEW DEPTH GRADIENT – COMPARE WITH DATA FUNCTION
    • For a group of fluids, simulate the compositional variation vs. depth, and compare the simulated variation in fluid compositions, fluid properties and Gas-Oil Contact with the experimental data.
  • DEPTH GRADIENT SIMULATION
    • Explicit location of GOC found when the starting sample is a gas and there is no distinct GOC, just a critical transition at a pressure higher than the saturation pressure.

FLOW ASSURANCE

  • WATER SIMULATIONS
    • Inner lines can be included in phase envelopes with water.
    • The Saturation Point option now allows the fluid to contain water and calculates all hydrocarbon and aqueous saturation points.
  • CTM FILE
    • PVTsim CTM files now contains the viscosity model choice.
  • DEPOWAX
    • Issue fixed in plotting of output, which sometimes caused PVTsim Nova to shut down.

    • Evaluation of the Plus Fraction Weight Amount updated to follow the procedure in SPE-216783-MS. The Plus Fraction Weight Amount procedure is now only applied to lighter fluids with a GOR > 600 Sm3/Sm3.
